    NOVA defense Force

September 14, 2006 - The United Interstellar Defense Alliance [UIDA] is founded by Harlock, Amakiir, Vladamir and Enelya in the Alpha-17 galaxy.

September 23, 2006 - First ever shots fired as EAA attacks a UIDA base. The attacker is repelled.

October 5, 2006 – The Fro Incident - Fro, the sixth person ever to join UIDA, is attacked without warning by TOGCO, and UIDA forces return fire, destroying the TOGCO occupiers. Fro uses the protection of UIDA fleets to retaliate against several TOGCO bases. It is later discovered that Fro had been intentionally goading TOGCO and UIDA into a conflict by attacking TOGCO fleets and trade routes, and had been lying about being attacked without cause. Fro is expelled from UIDA and left to TOGCO to abuse as they see fit. Thereafter, the word "fro" replaces standard swear words in UIDA's lexicon.

October 9-12, 2006 – The EAA Conflict - EAA attacks all of UIDA's early outposts in A18. Due to a lack of warp drive and jump gate technology, UIDA has difficulty rescuing the bases. Three events bring an end to the EAA Conflict: 1. The merging of GIDF (Lancer's guild) with UIDA; 2. The sharing of EAA scouting reports created by Harlock with 13th, who are also being attacked by EAA; and 3. A kamikaze attack by Reikitenshi, who shows UIDA's commitment by sacrificing his entire fleet. EAA, sensing the tide turning against them, withdraws from UIDA bases.

October 13-14, 2006 – The TOGCO War - Tensions between UIDA and TOGCO remained high following the Fro Incident. Following an attack upon a new UIDA member by TOGCO (later claimed to be a mistake), UIDA destroys TOGCO scouts in UIDA regions. TOGCO, which is more than twice the size of UIDA, uses this as grounds to declare war, and begins full scale invasion throughout the galaxy. Harlock, on his best day ever as leader, single-handedly saves UIDA from certain destruction through a series of maneuvers. First, through some lucky guesses about AE's combat system, Harlock inflicts lopsided defeats against 3 influential members of TOGCO at the Battle of Valerosa. Harlock then convinces those members that the war is unjust and that they should withdraw from the war, along with their friends. Harlock also convinces DIG to join the war on UIDA's side, since they are also threatened by TOGCO. Finally, Harlock calls on 13th to return the favor of the maps he gave them during the EAA Conflict, and 13th sends two massive fleets led by Halo and Fordbum to A17 in response. TOGCO, facing mutiny from within and now an even fight from UIDA-DIG-13th, is forced to seek peace only 26 hours after declaring war.

In the aftermath of the TOGCO War, half of TOGCO does in fact break away from the guild and forms OoK, which immediately seeks friendly relations with UIDA. TOGCO never recovers, and eventually disbands. Also, EAA, having made too many enemies, withdraws completely from UIDA's galaxies and relocates to A24. Thus UIDA, within 2 days, rid itself of its 2 biggest threats and gained 3 allies.

October 29, 2006 - UIDA and DIG, having experienced slowed growth with the opening of the A20s galaxies and the Beta server, begin discussing merging the two guilds.

November 3, 2006 - OoK asks to be included in the UIDA-DIG merger discussions, and a new guild led by a 3 member council consisting of the leaders of the 3 guilds is agreed to in principle.

November 5-8, 2006 – The KTV War - OoK and KTV became embroiled in a conflict over a solo player who KTV was trying to farm and OoK was trying to recruit. Despite the fact that OoK, UIDA and DIG all had larger fleets than KTV, OoK called upon its allies to declare war on KTV. DIG had a NAP with KTV and could not participate. UIDA, not wishing to jeopardize the merger negotiations, therefore declared war on KTV and did nearly all of the fighting, completely overwhelming KTV in UIDA's home galaxies. A truce was declared 3 days after fighting commenced. The solo player, Gurgeh, joined OoK after the war and many months later would become OoK's de facto leader.

November 9, 2006 - UIDA constructs its first bases in the Upper Galaxies, claiming its first crystalline astros in A27.

November 16, 2006 - OoK surprises UIDA by withdrawing from the merger over a disagreement on whether the merged guild would permit the farming of solo players. UIDA opposed farming while OoK wished to permit it, despite the fact that they had just asked UIDA to declare war on KTV for doing that very same thing. Despite hard feelings, the guilds remained allies.

November 22, 2006 - UIDA and DIG approve a two-way merger under a 13 point agreement, with the resulting guild to be renamed by a vote of its members. The actual merger would be put off until January, however, due to UIDA being caught up in conflicts with RL and BORG in the frontier galaxies, while DIG got involved in the conflict between TGTF and EeY in the middle galaxies.

January 2, 2007 - UIDA agrees to a MDP with IRC, a well-connected guild closely allied with CLS.

January 4, 2007 - UIDA and DIG finally complete the merger and adopt a new name: the Nova Defense Force [NOVA]!

January 23 to February 21, 2007 – The NPO War - On January 17, 2007, the largest and longest war in server history, later dubbed the "Coalition Wars", was set in motion when EeY and BORG declared war on CLS and BTSG for forming an alliance with each other. Treaties were quickly activated by all involved, until the guilds chose sides as follows:

BORG Coalition: BORG, EeY, AoE, DT, OCL, HUN, SoG
CLS Coalition: CLS, TGTF, BTSG, CGB, DH, 5hZ, EAA, IRC, OoK

With treaties in place with both IRC and OoK, NOVA was poised to enter the war on the CLS side, but was asked to wait so as not to draw the BORG Coalition's other major ally, NPO, into the conflict. When NPO entered the war anyway on January 22, 2007, NOVA responded by declaring war on NPO the next day. Due to NPO forces being badly disorganized and distracted by numerous opponents, NOVA got the better of its battles with NPO, seizing dozens of bases while surrendering very few. After a month of fighting and suffering from internal power struggles, NPO declared peace with the CLS Coalition and NOVA on February 21, 2007.

February 23 to March 20, 2007 – The Trinity War - After NPO withdrew, NOVA's status in the Coalition Wars was uncertain, since it had only declared war on NPO and none of the BORG Coalition guilds had officially declared war on NOVA. Because [-III-] (aka "Trinity", a guild formed from the members of EeY, AoE and DT) had made attacks on NOVA without a war declaration, the members of NOVA voted to continue fighting in the Coalition Wars, but only against Trinity. This war went well at first, with NOVA scoring many of the few victories for the CLS side in the late stages of the war, but by now it was clear that the major guilds in the CLS Coalition had been routed and were on the run, with some guilds surrendering and even changing sides. NOVA continued to fight, but began taking losses once Trinity was free to concentrate more firepower solely on its fleets. When Mordor declared war on NPO, however, Trinity decided they couldn't aid their allies NPO without ridding themselves of the last pockets of resistance in the Coalition War. Accordingly, Trinity offered NOVA a white peace. NOVA declined the peace, however, unless it was also offered to OoK. Trinity then made the offer to OoK as well, and NOVA, freed of its remaining treaty obligations to the CLS Coalition, accepted peace and withdrew from the war on March 20, 2007. The remainder of the CLS Coalition would surrender to the BORG Coalition on April 15, 2007.

March 20, 2007 to October 20, 2007 – The Era of Peace - Following our strong showing in the Coalition Wars despite fighting for the losing side, NOVA was able to enjoy a 7 month era of peace. Membership swelled to its largest in history. Only two events of note occurred during this period:

August 12, 2007 - NOVA formalizes a MDP with 5hZ, which was already allied with OoK; and September 19, 2007 - NOVA finally ratifies its guild Charter, which it had been put off ever since the Coalition Wars.

October 20 to November 17, 2007 – The AoE War - The Era of Peace came to an abrupt close when AoE declared war on NOVA and OoK for reasons, as they admitted, were solely out of boredom. Most NOVA members moved to OoK for the duration of the war, to make it easier to communicate and use each other's jump gates. Though the fleets on each side were somewhat close to even in size at the outset, the war was a total defeat for the NOVA-OoK alliance. The reasons we lost were: 1. The refusal by members to initiate a critical pre-emptive strike when it became clear that AoE was preparing to attack; 2. too many veteran players going inactive during the long peace; 3. too many new players who'd never fought in a war; 4. members ignoring repeated warnings about poorly designed fleets, resulting in a fatal shortage of recyclers that paralyzed any counterattack effort; 5. members ignoring orders to switch guilds and form up fleets at rallying points; 6. members ignoring orders not to run off and try to free poorly defended bases, losing their fleets in the process; 7. a confused merged leadership structure; 8. the adoption of an unsustainable, purely defensive strategy; and 9. a generally poor understanding of tactics on the OoK side. Towards the end of the war, the former DIG members would break away from NOVA and the alliance, briefly forming their own guild and then later joining other guilds. AoE finally declared a truce with the NOVA-OoK alliance on November 17, 2007, after they'd taken all the spoils of war worth taking. The NOVA that emerged in the aftermath of the AoE War is roughly half its former size, consisting mainly of the old guard from UIDA and new recruits. It remains to be seen whether the members of NOVA learned anything from this defeat.
