Royal Task Force Vimy Ridge Mobilizes
Globe and Mail
It is a tearful day for many military families across New Canada as the various sailors, soldiers, and technicians that make up the mighty Canadian Armed Forces are being called to gather at Yellowknife in preparation for deployment.
Such a mobilization has not occurred in almost a decade, when the Canadian Dominion exited the RL/TN conflict. Since then, most of the warships that make up the Royal Canadian Interstellar Navy have been floating, mostly crewless, above Winnipeg.
This has all changed. Earlier today, the Canadian Ministry of Defence has increased the readiness of all ships, and crewmen from all sixteen worlds of the Dominion are being directed to man their warships. The main fleet is currently on its way to the world of Yellowknife. It’s destination from there is still classified.
A hint comes from the make-up of the forces being sent. While almost all naval units have been mobilized, they are only taking around one division of ground troops out of the six the Dominion currently fields. It is the 7th Armoured Division, however, which is one of the most feared Canadian units in existence. It is comprised almost completely of either the new Gargoyle MK. V Heavy Combat Suit. This latest model has virtually rendered tanks obsolete, without sacrificing mobility or firepower. In addition to the 7th Armoured, there are three marine battalions attached to the RCIN being sent, along with the 1st Special Operations Regiment, which is home to some of the most elite in the Dominion.
Despite that they are among the best the Canadian Land Forces has to offer, the small amount of troops means that most of the fighting will be done in space, with little occupying of hostile planets. This is indicative of a defensive strategy. Just what is being protected remains to be seen. – Harriet Coldhorn
